I’m Shattered!

Wow, what a crazy and exhausting day! It was one of those days that wasn't exhausting while it was happening, but now that I've (finally!) gotten a chance to sit down, I'm shattered!! It's Simon's birthday today and of course Kason and Cohen decided it was a good idea to be wide awake by 6am. We all got up, and we gave Si his presents – he LOVED the photo frame I made up for him J Before we knew it, it was time to head out the door for Neonates Playgroup! The boys had a great time, as per usual, and Simon enjoyed being there and seeing what the boys get up to. He doesn't often get a chance to see the boys interact with other kids their age and in an environment where they don't spend a lot of time.

From there we headed into the city – a few weeks ago we got a deal online for a family photo shoot - $445 worth of photo shoot, DVD and prints for only $19! Today we had our photos taken J Both Cohen and Kason were champs, they did SO well with it. We were really impressed with the woman we were dealing with, she was absolutely lovely, fantastic with the boys and went out of her way to help us out...and she is a triplet! SO can't wait to see the pictures next Friday (which also happens to be the day one of my besties arrives for the weekend!)!

We dropped Simon off at work, and got home just in time to give the boys their dinner, their bath and their cups of milk. They both crashed out in bed without a peep. I feel like doing the same...if only I didn't have so much to get done!

Busy, Busy

It's my Mum's 60th birthday in September, and my Dad is throwing her a big party. Simon absolutely cannot take time off work when Mum's birthday is, so seeing as we won't be there, I'm making the invitations. I did them for Dad's 60th, too. I'm SO stoked with how they have turned out so far...I'm just waiting to get a photo of her from when she was little. My secret squirrel is working on that at the moment. Hopefully I'll have them done early next week to send to Dad to distribute J

Speaking of birthdays, it's Simon's tomorrow! I've baked him The Best Chocolate Cake Ever! as requested...just need to wait for it to cool down so I can ice it. I have also just finished putting his present together, too. I'll get photos of it tomorrow, but I reckon it looks freaken awesome and I am so excited to give it to him in the morning.

Total change of subject...we spent the afternoon down at the park today. We met three of my friends down there with their four kids. Three of the kids are around Kason and Cohen's age, one is just 3.5 month old. The boys had a blast, and in the last couple of days they have developed an obsession with slides – Kason especially! At Twins Playgroup yesterday, there was a really low-to-the-ground slide and Kase was just constantly climbing up it and sliding back down on his belly. He had an absolute blast, it was SO cute! Today he was trying to do the same, but the slide was much bigger, outside, and steel. Needless to say, we're looking for a slide for them now.

This is only short because I need to do some work on Z's quilt, and ice a cake!

Progress

Day 255 by Road2Chaos2
Day 255, a photo by Road2Chaos2 on Flickr.

I didn't get a chance to work on Z's quilt at all in the weekend, what with Simon working all weekend, and us going out on Saturday night, then being utterly exhausted on Sunday night. Last night, though, I managed to get the X's sewn on each square, and tonight I laid it out and decided on this. I have a friend coming over tomorrow night, so I won't get anymore of it done then, but I really need to get it done on Thursday and Friday nights because I have something else I need to make two of by the end of the weekend. I need these things for Sydney and one of my besties is most likely coming from Melbourne to visit next weekend.

I'm getting there!

14 Months Old!

Dear Kason and Cohen,

Today you are 14 months old! This morning we had a catch-up swimming lesson, and then after lunch we went to the shops to get some things for Daddy's birthday which is on Friday. After you both woke up from your afternoon nap, we just hung out. We have had a fairly quiet month, it's been school holidays for the last two weeks, which means that most of our usual activities haven't been on, so we've spent more time at home than usual. It's been nice though...generally. You have both dropped your afternoon naps, so by around 3:30pm-ish, you start to get a bit grumpy. When the weather has been nice enough, or at least not raining, we've been going for walks about that time just to get out of the house. On the days when rain has been threatening (which has been a lot this month!), we have just been going up and down the cul de sac in your wagon – it does the trick!

You are both doing so well, and you are really starting to show your personalities and becoming more confident within yourselves. When we go somewhere new, you generally will only take a few minutes to warm up and then off you both go to explore!

Kason, you LOVE to climb!!! You have started climbing up onto your little table, onto the coffee table, onto your little chairs, onto anything that will give you a different vantage point...and get you into trouble! You are VERY cheeky. When you are about to do something you know you're not allowed to do, you will give a very mischievous grin and giggle then get on with whatever it is.
You have also discovered a liking for eating millipedes. I hate it!!! You will hide behind the couch where I can't see you and go to town. You are up to three now. I don't even know where you find them, we don't get many inside the house and whenever Daddy or I see them, they go straight outside! When you get snapped eating something you shouldn't be, you shut your mouth tight so I can't get my finger in to get whatever it is out. I'm convinced you are going to be my boy who will eat the snails, the handfuls of dirt, the bugs, all of the gross stuff!!
You are still mostly crawling, but you are FAST! In the last few days, you have started taking several steps here and there. You're best so far is ten steps! I do thing you will pick-up walking faster than Cohen did.

Cohen, you seem to enjoy sitting in things. You are constantly climbing into your toy basket and the plastics drawer in the kitchen. Just a couple of days ago, you had a bit of a tantrum because Kason climbed into the basket and you couldn't get in too! You also ADORE books, which I love. You often have a book in your hands, and you are especially loving the carry-along book about baby animals your Nana and Grumps gave you for your birthday. You do NOT like Kason even looking at it. If you are not feeling quite your usual happy self, you will go and sit in the corner by your little table, get a book or five down and 'read' them.
In the last two weeks, you have really started to walk everywhere! You are getting more and more confident every day, and it is so cute to watch you toddle around everywhere! You like to chase Kason, but he is still faster crawling than you are walking, but you both love it, and causes you both to squeal and giggle! You also like to pat Kason on the head when you walk past him!

It really is such a privilege to watch your bond grow and develop. You love each other, and will often give each other a kiss. Just today you bumped heads. Cohen, you had a little cry (I think it gave you a bit of a fright), so I stroked your head. Kason must have been expecting it, so there were no tears from him, but it must have made you feel better when I stroked your head, because you then did the same to Kase You make each other laugh so many times throughout the day, you adore being together most of the time. There are times when you frustrate each other, and don't want to share my attention, or the toy you are playing with. But that is totally understandable – the only time you really get time without your brother is if one of you is asleep and the other one is awake.

We have a big couple of months coming up, but I'm sure you will handle everything like the little champs you are! You both amaze me, every single day. I am so incredibly lucky to be your Mama. I love you both in a circle.

New Port-a-Cot

Day 254 by Road2Chaos2
Day 254, a photo by Road2Chaos2 on Flickr.

Our new port-a-cot arrived this morning. We already had one, but with our trip to Sydney coming up in a few weeks, we figured that while we could borrow one, it made more sense to buy a second one as this isn't likely to be the last holiday we go on in the next few years when we need them!

Anyways, it comes with all the trappings (including rocking rails which go on the bottom so it can rock like a cradle!), which I haven't put on, but there is also a little zip-door on one end which means it can also be used as a small playpen - the boys can crawl in and out of it and they had a blast with it this afternoon.

So Proud

Day 253 by Road2Chaos2
Day 253, a photo by Road2Chaos2 on Flickr.

Of myself!!! Simon was working at the Bridal Expo this weekend, both Saturday and Sunday, which left us with no opportunity for grocery shopping. There were quite a few things which we really needed, so I braved it. Both boys only had a 30-minute nap this morning (on the way home from when we dropped Simon at the Bridal Expo), so after they had their lunch, I packed them into the car and we headed to the store.

Not only did I manage to get every single item on our list, I did it in record-breaking time, spent about $50 less than we usually would, and Kason and Cohen behaved SO well! And then, they both fell asleep on the 5-minute drive home, transferred to their cots, then slept for another 30 minutes!

I had one boy in the trolley, and the other in a front-pack - SO glad they are both still within the weight limit for it...don't think they will be for much longer though.

On and Off

Day 252 by Road2Chaos2
Day 252, a photo by Road2Chaos2 on Flickr.

At both Occasional Care and Playgroup, there are boards with pictures velcroed onto them. They aren't there for playing with really, but Kason and Cohen LOVE to pull the pictures off and put them back on. As in, at playgroup they will spend a good 10 sitting by the board, pulling it all apart. Apparently they do the same at Occasional Care. So anyways, I made this one for them so they have one at home too. I struggled to find a decent fabric which the velcro would stick to, so I ended up getting this cot panel of fabric and covering it with a fairly fine tulle and it seems to work well! Cohen and Kason have only played with it once so far, it's going to be a toy-room activity - too many places for the laminated cards to get stashed in!

Gone!

So...I had a pretty awesome photo as my photo of the day today. It was of a beautiful tree with it's blossoms all out. It was in a break in a 'tunnel' of trees, so the dusky sun was shining on it, it looked gorgeous! Anyways, we got home from our big walk in the wagon, and my little camera wasn't there!!! I had given it to the boys to hold onto so they would forget they were wearing hats and would be less likely to pull them off...yeah, not such a smart move on part. Obviously, at some point on the second half of our walk, they decided that they no longer needed to take care of said camera, and tossed it aside. Got home, camera not there, so I transferred the boys into the stroller (first time using the 'new' one!) and retraced our steps to where I last had it...about a 30 minute walk from home. I couldn't find it, and no-one we came across had seen it. Gutted! Luckily I transferred pictures off it two nights ago, and hadn't used it until the picture of the tree. Also luckily, we still have the big camera J

I'm really hoping that, if all goes to plan (which, as we all know, very rarely happens!), this will be a blanket by the end of this weekend! Simon is working Saturday and Sunday this weekend, and we are hoping to go out on Saturday night...so chances aren't high, but we'll see!

Fabulous!

I am so fabulous at procrastinating!! I've been online for most of the night. I had great plans to clean the bathrooms, tidy up around the house, sew the squares up for little Z's quilt (which I need to finish by the end of the month), do the dishes and get to bed early. As of now, I have sewn ten squares...of 56. Not exactly the progress I had planned on, but hey! I really should get off my arse and tick some things off my list. Doesn't help that Winners & Losers is on though.

The boys were a bit 'off' today. Kason a bit more so than Cohen. We had playgroup this morning, and while they would usually be both off and into everything as soon as their feet hit the ground, today Cohen took a while to 'warm-up' before he wandered around (SO cute!!), and Kason had tears on and off for most of the time, and was super clingy. Makes life a bit tricky when Cohen is walking around getting into everything and needs to be watched, especially as there were so many people there today (school holidays), but Kason needed to be in one place so he could get a hold of his bearings and relax in his own time. I thought they would be in better moods after a big nap...maybe they would have been, but neither of them had a big nap! Still just their stock-standard 40 minutes. We had lots of grizzles, and they did NOT want to eat their dinner. They have a new game – who can blow the most raspberries with a mouthful of food. Makes for fun mealtimes!

Anyways, tomorrow is a new day. And I still have to get onto those jobs, so I really better go!

New Outfits

Day 247 by Road2Chaos2
Day 247, a photo by Road2Chaos2 on Flickr.

My Mum loves to knit for her grandkids! Well, four out of five of them...one of my two gorgeous nieces lives in the Caribbean, so she doesn't really have much need for knitted things.

She started on these outfits when she was over here for Cohen and Kason's birthday. She finished one jersey while she was here, then we got the second jersey in the mail a short time after she got home, then the two hats, then just a couple of days ago, the pants arrived. I love it! I think that the boys look SO super cute in their little outfits :-) And the wool she used is so, so soft.

Another One Done!

Day 246 by Road2Chaos2
Day 246, a photo by Road2Chaos2 on Flickr.

Another craft project done and dusted! I actually finished most of it a couple of weeks ago, but just had to get the hooks to hang the bags off, and the things to attach the canvases to the wall.

Anyways, we are planning on making the spare room a toy/play room for Kason and Cohen. Because they share a room, and therefore there are two cots, two chests of drawers and a blanket box in their room, there isn't a lot of room in there for them to play. Well, with toys! They certainly love playing in there...by pulling all of their clothes out of their drawers, and all of their sheets and blankets out of the blanket box!

I'm not delusional, I know the bags won't stay on the hooks, but hey, a girl can try! I've still got a few things to sort out in there before it's ready, but I'll get there. It's not really a priority at the moment.

Not What Was Planned

Day 245 by Road2Chaos2
Day 245, a photo by Road2Chaos2 on Flickr.

Today was awesome!!! It was not exactly what we had planned, but hey! We headed down to Victor Harbor to check out a children's market they had on...it was a bit disappointing. It is a fairly new market I think, so there weren't many stalls, and the stalls that they did have catered more for girls. That's been the trend that I've noticed at most of the markets we've been to, but I guess it's much more obvious when there are so few (maybe 10-15) stalls, with only three that have *any* boy things. The only thing we bought was a pair of Cheeky Feet shoes for my niece. Oh, and two cupcakes!!

Anyways, from there we drove into the town with the intent to get some takeaway lunch and eat it at the big park. Driving in though, we noticed big signs up everywhere advertising a Junior Pro Surfing comp on. We tapped the beach into the GPS, and off we went! The beach (Waitpinga Beach) was in the middle of the wops, no phone service, and down a skinny road which was lined with parked cars making it even skinnier! We found a spot to park and walked back to the beach access spot to check out the action. Kason and Cohen had their lunch on the beach, before watching a Southern Right Whale playing out the back, and then a pod of dolphins swimming right through the middle of the surf!

After watching a few heats and semi-finals of the surfing comp, we went back to the town, Si got his fish and chips and we had the lunch in the park. Cohen and Kason LOVED chasing the seagulls around and watching them fighting over hot chips (the seagulls, not the boys!).

Got home just in time for the boys' dinner. Such an awesome day with my awesome little family :-)

More Pram Liners!

Day 244 by Road2Chaos2
Day 244, a photo by Road2Chaos2 on Flickr.

I know these pram liners could be improved on fit-wise, but to be honest, the liners of the boys' highchairs fit well enough so I could use that as a template...and I'd only have to do one button-hole for each (my sewing machine is rather temperamental on doing buttonholes for some reason??). But from start to finish, each liner only took about 1.5 hours which I was pretty stoked with! The liners for my Mountain Buggy probably would have taken about 2.5 hours all up.

I've had this fabric for a while. I saw it at Spotlight while I was there for something else several month ago, and I just HAD to get it, even though I didn't know what I'd use it for! Got the stroller, easy decision on what fabric to use for the liners!

Today

We've had a great day today! It wasn't what we had planned yesterday, but that's ok J My friend was supposed to bring her little man over for a playdate, but he has come down with a bad cold, so we had to postpone.

Simon is working at the Bridal Expo next weekend, and has to get fitted for a suit as one of the big suit sale and hire stores here are dressing him (and the models) as part of their advertising. Anyways, their store is in the city, so we all went in for a few hours. I thought it would have made sense for Simon to stay in the city seeing as he works there (he doesn't start until 5pm on Fridays), and it's a 1-hour bus trip in for him. He had other ideas though, and came home with us, had enough time to download a few more apps as recommended by my brother (hello, Talking Tom – you are freaking hilarious!) and that's about it! We rugged the boys up in their jackets and hats, put them in the wagon with a blanket to keep their little legs warm, and walked Daddy to the bus stop. Figured we may as well make the most of the SUN we finally saw today! It's not going to last long according to the forecast. Oh I so can't wait for Spring!!! And I am also holding out hope that the weather will be warmer in Sydney next month. Although, in saying that, I've already seen quite a few blossoms out around here lately J One tree has already gone past the blossoms and has it's new leaves already...maybe it's going to warm up soon??

Well, Si's working late tonight so I won't be waiting up for him, so I think I might go and get the dishes done so I can get to bed super early!

Oh!!! And we got a package from my Mum today, too...she knitted some pants for Cohen and Kason (SO cute!), and she put in a couple of packets of Eskimos for me – she is awesome!

Twins Group

Today has been good! We had yet another morning of both boys sleeping in until 6:45am, and then after breakfast, we all headed to the shops to grab a couple of things...and a coffee/hot chocolate J Cohen and Kason fell asleep on the way home and stayed asleep when we put them in their cots. Cohen slept for an hour, and I had to wake Kase up for Twins Group (whoever said never to wake a sleeping baby obviously didn't have twins!). Twins Group was good today! There were two sets of older teenage twins there and one singleton. They LOVED playing with the babies (two sets of 1-year-olds and one set of 3-year-olds), and it was nice not to have to watch both of them every minute. One thing that did annoy me though...we found out today that we got a grant from the council...which the women with the school-aged twins have decided that they will use to get a crèche worker to look after the little ones. They didn't bother consulting with those of us who actually HAVE the little ones. It pisses me off that they just decide that because that's what they wanted when their twins were little, that's obviously what we all want. I much prefer to watch my boys interacting with the other twins. And I know for a fact that I'm not the only one.
There is another Twins Playgroup (also through the SA Multiples Assoc.) which is held weekly, and not too far away. I'm going to call about that one tomorrow!

All About Nothing!

So, being the totally awesome and smart person I am, I have *just* figured out I can write a post in Word and upload it directly from here!

It's been another quiet day here...looking forward to the next couple of days, when we actually have things planned! We have Twins Group tomorrow...I've posted about it before (can't find the posts at the moment though), it should be interesting. It's the school holidays here, so I think there will be some of the older twins there – I think most of them are around 15-years-old. Then on Friday arvo we have friends coming over, looking forward to catching up with them – we haven't seen them since Kason and Cohen's birthday party and we didn't really get much of a chance to chat then. That also means that I'm going to have to find some time tomorrow to get the housework done! I usually do that on a Wednesday when they boys are in Occasional Care, but that's not on in the holidays.

Anyways, this post hasn't really been very interesting huh?! Just wanted to try out this 'blogging-from-Word' thing J and now I have dishes to do, then I'm heading to bed early for a change! Maybe...!

Gingerbread Men & Sleep-Ins!

Day 241 by Road2Chaos2
Day 241, a photo by Road2Chaos2 on Flickr.

Kason was SO excited about playing in his ball pit this afternoon!

The weather here has been crap lately, so cold (I think the high today was only about 11C!), and rain on and off. It makes it hard to get out and about, especially as it's school holidays so playgroup and occasional care aren't on, and I've been starting to go a bit stir-crazy. So, after the boys finished their lunch, we went out to the mall just to have a wander around (and get a hot chocolate for me and mini gingerbread men for Cohen and Kason).

Oh!!! In totally awesome news! Kason slept until 6:50am this morning, and I had to wake Cohen at 7am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is pretty much unheard of in our house!! Usually we are REALLY lucky to get them to sleep until 6:30am, and it's usually more like 5 or 5:30am. Here's hoping it continues...Simon and I have always loved our sleep-ins :-)

Day 240, a photo by Road2Chaos2 on Flickr.

This is Kason, but this is a common sight in our house at the moment, courtesy of either boy. Apparently the best thing ever (only currently, obviously - this just may change in five minutes time) is pulling the lid off the bib box, pulling them all out and distributing through the house! As you can see, they will then move onto the box with the nappies!

NINJA!

Day 239 by Road2Chaos2
Day 239, a photo by Road2Chaos2 on Flickr.

Kason pulls an impressive impression of a ninja. On cue usually too. He balls his tiny hands up into little fists and scrunches his face up...the grin gives it away though! Anyways, he loves showing his trick off in front of other people (he does it and looks at me until I say, 'ninja!'), and a friend of mine found this little cartoon for him. I couldn't resist and made this t-shirt for him!!!

Simon was working today, so the boys and I just had a quiet day at home. When he got home, we rugged Kason and Cohen up (it was COLD!!!!!!!) and took them for a little walk to the fish & chip shop across the road. I know I say it a lot, but they LOVE their wagon so, so much! And it's entertaining taking them in it - they literally slow traffic, and watching people craning their necks so they can see is just hilarious!

Peek-a-boo!

Day 237 by Road2Chaos2
Day 237, a photo by Road2Chaos2 on Flickr.

Yet another day, today, of both boys only wanting one nap. Kason did have 1.5 hours, which was awesome...Cohen, on the other hand, slept for 30 minutes. Total. All freaking day. That made for two grumpy boys tonight!
Si didn't start work until 5pm tonight...he left just as both of the boys started screaming.

They did calm down soon enough though, and Kason discovered the fun of playing peek-a-boo with their bathroom door :-)

Cohen did lots of walking tonight, he walked pretty much everywhere! It sure won't be long until he is off and running...!

Playschool

Day 236 by Road2Chaos2
Day 236, a photo by Road2Chaos2 on Flickr.

Kason & Cohen adore Playschool. I switch the TV on at 4:30pm everyday for them, and they just sit quietly and watch it!

One of my first memories was from when I was 3 or 4, sitting in the middle of the table, eating a chocolate chip biscuit, watching Playschool and waiting for my brothers to get home from school. So I love that my boys are now watching the same show, and that they love it so much!

Kason and Cohen's cousin sent them a gift voucher each for their birthday. We've been looking for what to get them, but just this last week, with all the toy sales, we found this little ball pit - so we got this for them! It only came with a pitiful amount of balls, so we got an extra 200 balls, and it's all perfect and they LOVE it!! There were a few tears today, so I pulled it out of the (soon-to-be) toy room - no more tears!

Day 234, a photo by Road2Chaos2 on Flickr.

Kason (and Cohen) got a package from Nana today! Cohen was asleep when we got home and discovered it, so Kason got to roadtest his new beanie, and Nana's old cellphone! When she was staying, both boys LOVED her phone. It has a little torch light on the top of it, and somehow they both discovered a shortcut to turning it on. Neither Mum nor I have any idea what the shortcut is, but both Cohen and Kason can turn the torch on within seconds of laying their gorgeous little hands on the phone!

Mum didn't forget about me, and put in a packet of Eskimo's!!! YUM! But, there was only one packet...they may possibly be almost all gone... :-p

This caterpillar toy is so great - it has two sides so they can both play with it at the same time, without having to fight over it. In theory! One side is a bit tricky for them still. But they love playing with the balls that go down the ramp - there are four, two that rattle, two that don't, and apparently banging a rattle ball against a non-rattle ball is the. best. thing. ever.! At least there is one 'set' for each of them!

Kason looks like such a little BOY in this photo! He's not my baby anymore :-(

Tunnel Fun

I thought I'd mix things up a little for the boys today, and brought out their tunnel box while they were napping so it was there when they woke up. They LOVED it, and literally spend over an hour just crawling back and forth through it, and playing peek-a-boo with each other!

On our way home from catching up with friends. This shot really didn't capture the beautiful light that was shining through the trees. It was about 4:30pm, so just the start of dusk, and it was such a stunning day - so glad we walked, and didn't take the car :-)

Ramblings

I think we may have FINALLY sorted out our internet issues...now we just have to wait for our data to roll over in just over a week, and I should online as normal! Hopefully anyways!

Got a few big things coming up in the next couple of months. Gonna make life crazy, but that's what life's about huh?!

Right now, Hubby and Boys are all sleeping after a big morning of swimming lessons and an early (5am! Thanks Kase...) start. Kinda hoping they all wake up soon - I'm heading out to a friends place this arvo.
I'm watching two little magpies on our lawn, eating the bread we put out for them. K &C just love watching the birds out the window :-)

One of my brothers ran, and finished, the Gold Coast Marathon this morning. SO proud of him, I think he is awesome - I could never do something like that! And he has dodgy knees too, so it was a huge accomplishment for him. He ran the 1/2 marathon last year, after deciding to do it only 2 weeks in advance. He gave himself a bit more time for preparation this year!

I've got several crafty things on the go at the moment...and stopped at Spotlight on the way home from swimming this morning to get more materials. Hope to get some (most? all?) finished this week. We'll see.

I'm trying to get a bit more fit and back into shape at the moment. Had a great week with exercise last week...then the weather was horrible yesterday so had a PJ day at home and ended up baking: fresh bread, apple & cinnamon scrolls, caramello mousse and cooking a lasagne. Unfortunately the caramello mouse is absolutely divine, and SO easy to make. Fortunately, it is really rich, so I can't eat too much of it at once!

Really better go and get myself sorted for this arvo. Also, a boy has jut woken!
