Photoshoot

Day 199 by Road2Chaos2
Day 199, a photo by Road2Chaos2 on Flickr.

A friend of mine is a photographer, and today, she took some photos of Cohen and Kason. I think she got some good ones, but both boys were pretty grumpy and clingy. Kason didn't have much of a sleep after playgroup this morning (they both usually sleep about 2 - 2.5 hours on Tuesdays) which explains why he was like he was, but I have absolutely no idea what was up with Cohen. They both know Sarah, we see her pretty much every week. So it was a bit bizzare. But we will have a playdate with Sarah and her little girl soon and she will snap some more then if necessary.
Can't wait to see what she did get though!

Mum and I took Kason and Cohen to the park down the road today seeings as the weather was FINALLY playing ball. There is only one baby swing there, so we figured they could share it! They both absolutely loved it! I took a video of them, and all you can hear are their squeals of delight - so sweet!

Party Time!

Day 197 by Road2Chaos2
Day 197, a photo by Road2Chaos2 on Flickr.

It's been a big day today! We hired out the place we have playgroup at for Cohen and Kason's birthday party. We got there about 90 minutes before the party started so we could get everything ready and so the boys could both have a nap (there is a nap room there, with port-a-cots) and an early lunch before everyone arrived at 12pm. Their friends were there until 3pm, and we took about an hour to clean up. This little boy managed to last it all, in an awesome mood, on just 20 minutes sleep!!! He did not want to nap there, so Simon ended up driving home to pick up some unneccesary thing (I don't even remember what it was!) with Cohen in the car so he (Cohen, obviously!) could at least sleep for the amount of time it took to drive home and back. And he did, thankfully, but he didn't transfer into the port-a-cot. Guess he thought he was going to miss out on all the excitement!

Anyways, they had such an awesome day, and they got utterly spoilt! And their t-shirts were a hit - a lot of people seemed to appreciate them having their names on their t-shirts. It was nice not having to tell people who was who for a change!

Tomorrow is Kason and Cohen's robot-themed birthday party. Tonight, Mum & I have been busy decorating their birthday cakes - two awesome cakes for two awesome boys! This one is Kason's cake, Cohen's is completely different. I got the angle of the photo not quite right, he looks way out of proportion...I don't think he is in real life though?!

Hoot Hoot Wagon

Day 195, a photo by Road2Chaos2 on Flickr.

The weather wasn't so flash yesterday for the boys' birthday, and they had so many other presents to open, we left their big one - their wagon - until today when the weather was a bit nicer. They. Loved. It.!!! We put their new owl hats on them and took them for a walk down to the shops. It was non-stop giggles and grins from both of them until we got back home again! Almost stopped traffic too - quite a lot of people slowed down their cars to get a better look, and people stopped at the traffic lights got their giggles for the day.

They are ONE!!!!! How absolutely ridiculous is that?! What a crazy, crazy year it's been!

We have been so busy with Nana here that I haven't had a chance to type up their birthday letter yet...I'll get onto that.

Happy 1st Birthday to my beautiful, amazing, awesome baby boys! I love you so, so much.

Cake for Breakfast? I think, Yes!

Day 193 by Road2Chaos2
Day 193, a photo by Road2Chaos2 on Flickr.

I cannot believe that Kason and Cohen turn one tomorrow!!! This time last year, we had absolutely no. idea. that it would be our last childless night! After a night baking cakes for their party, we figured they needed something for their actual birthday! So, we whipped these little 1's up for their breakfast!

A Little Wary

Day 191
Originally uploaded by Road2Chaos

The weather has been awful again today! I really think it should only rain at night. Not every night, of course, but rain only at night would be SO much more convenient! Not least of all, it would mean being able to get my washing dry more easily. And actually being able to do the outside things we plan.

So yeah, due to the rain, we have just been hanging out at home today. It's nice to have a spare set of hands to help out (my Mum is here!), and the boys are loving it. Although, they are still a bit unsure of Nana, particularly when they first wake up. And when they are getting tired they just want cuddles with Mama. Strangely, it has been Kason who has been more wary of her. Mum sat in the back seat on the way home from the airport on Friday (so, between Kason and Cohen's carseats), and they both just stared at her for about 30mins, then 10mins out from home, Kason just cracked it - he bawled for the trip home, and as soon as we stopped the car, he just wanted Mama. At swimming on Saturday morning, he was with Nana (so Daddy could take photos), and at the 'Humpty Dumpty' game (the kids are on the edge of the pool and jump in when Humpty Dumpty falls), he cracked it again. He was fine though, once he was with me. And Nana has gotten lots of lovely cuddles from both boys, and Kase is definitely getting more comfortable with her being here.

Today's picture is of what I saw when I got up this morning (Nana was keeping the boys occupied until 7am) - Kason (L) and Cohen (R) making some mess in the kitchen!

Out & About

The weather was HORRIBLE today!!! We had planned several weeks ago to go to the Lollipop markets in West Beach today, and thankfully it was indoors! It was cold, wet and windy - the temperature didn't even get to 16C! The markets were good, packed though, SO many people, and strollers there. It was a bit of mission to navigate the double stroller around. There were a few cool things there, got a couple of things for the boys' birthday :-) There were a couple of ridiculously overpriced things - in particular was a stall that sold names/letters on canvas. Before Cohen and Kason were born, I made some for their room. They have one letter on each canvas square. This stall had the same, and they were charging $50 (!!!) per square!!! I think I made a whole set (5 letters/squares) for less than that! RIDICULOUS!

After the markets we headed to Harbourtown for lunch, and that's about as long as we were there for - just lunch! As I said, the weather was atrocious, and Harbourtown isn't enclosed so there was no way we were hanging around to get cold and wet.

Early Start

Day 189
Originally uploaded by Road2Chaos

This, my friends, is a picture from the sun rising this morning. Yes, that means that I was up, and awake enough to get the camera out, when the sun rose this morning. Cohen decided he wanted to start the day at 4:45am. Fun. Lucky for me I managed to get him back to sleep...until Kase woke up all geared up for the day at 5:18am. Oh the joys!

We had a make-up swimming lesson this morning, so Nana got to take a boy, while Daddy took pictures :-) We spent the afternoon getting supplies for two robot cakes for Cohen & Kason's birthday party next weekend! CRAZY!

Excited much?!

Day 187
Originally uploaded by Road2Chaos

Not long before 6pm every night, Kason and Cohen get Hyper. With a capital 'H'. They know that means it's almost bath-time, which, according to them, is the. best. time. of. day.!!! Add to that Mama leaving the gate open, and things can't get much better, as evidenced by Kason's uber excited face in today's picture! The squeals that accompanied it were fairly ear-piercing...Cohen was just as excited!

And *I* am uber excited because tomorrow, my Mum arrives!!! She arrives just after 10am though, so we'll be missing out on Neonates playgroup which is a bit sucky, but we'll be there next time.

It's SO hard to believe that it is only ONE week until Cohen and Kason's first birthday!!! We are so looking forward to that, too. As an added bonus, Simon has the Thursday and Friday off - he worked at the wedding expo several months ago, and has been saving his Time Owed In Lieu for this, and he told me this morning that his boss gave him the Saturday off as a paid holiday, too!!! Which will be great - he can entertain Cohen & Kason while Mum and I bake two birthday cakes for the big party on Sunday!

EXCITED!!!

Another Doctors Visit

Day 186
Originally uploaded by Road2Chaos

Kason and Cohen both had an appointment at with the doctor today. They both still have a bit of a lingering cough and runny nose, so I just wanted to make sure there was nothing else going - no ear or chest infections. We just have to ride it out, but they are definitely improving...hopefully they will be back to 100% by their birthday.

One Of Those Days

Day 184
Originally uploaded by Road2Chaos

Today has been one of those days.
I went to bed kinda early last night, about 10pm, then Kase decided to wake himself up coughing just after midnight, then stay awake for almost two hours. Then Cohen woke at 4am-ish. We managed to get him back to sleep fairly quickly, but then Kase was back awake about 6am (I think, I went back to sleep and Simon got him up).
Today hasn't been much better on the sleeping front, particularly for Kason. He slept for 30mins TOTAL all day. Cohen was slightly better - he slept for 1 hour total! That made for two very grumpy boys who did not want me to leave their sides all day.

In other news, I sewed these pram liners up for a friend tonight. I think they turned out pretty well. She asked for red and green, and because I use cotton drill for the liners, it does limit the fabric patterns quite a bit. I'll give them to her tomorrow at playgroup, so hopefully she likes them!

One Small Step for Boy...

Day 180
Originally uploaded by Road2Chaos

Yesterday, Cohen took his very first unaided step!!! Just one little one, but it was a step (and I have witnesses!)! And he did it again this morning!
His standing his improved so much too, even in just the last two days. This evening before bed, he stood for over a minute before he slowly sat himself down.

Oh, and check out his forehead...he fell smack into the corner of the wall this morning. Right as I was in the middle of changing Kason's pooey nappy. Great timing, Son! Kason returned the favour this afternoon by throwing up on the floor (and then smooshing it around, cause that is awesome fun, apparently) when I was in the middle of changing Cohen's pooey nappy! Which also happened to be just as we were trying to leave the house for a playdate!

Twins (Play)Group

Day 179
Originally uploaded by Road2Chaos

We were hardly home at all today! Well, the boys weren't. They had Occasional Care this morning (and apparently they just wanted to be held the whole time - I think the break over the holidays was a bit much for them), then home, then we headed out to Twins Group. I haven't quite figured out the Twins Group yet...we have been going since about October/November last year, and it's held once a month. Several of the women there have older twins (I think they're about 15!), and there are five of us with littler ones - four-year-old twins, then K&C. The youngest two are about 6 months, so there are quite a few of us with twins around the same age.
It's part of the South Australian Multiple Birth Association, and is called "Two Plus & Us Playgroup". And here is where it gets strange...the ladies that run it are ADAMENT that we have to have a creche for the littles to be in while we catch up. I get the theory behind it, a break from them can be nice. But just having other sets of eyes around is as good as a break, and I would much rather prefer to watch the kids interacting. I love seeing my boys playing with other kids! I'm not alone either, I know that at least three of the other Mums agree with me. It kinds pisses me off that the older Mums haven't even asked us what we want - their kids are all at school so it doesn't even apply to them. To be honest, I don't even really know why I go most months...I guess it's because it's nice to talk to people who know exactly the challenges that come with twins. And, every month we have gone, I haven't put K&C in the creche, I just take them with me.

...I'd feel like I was stepping on toes if I started my own twins group.

Getting there!

Day 178
Originally uploaded by Road2Chaos

Oh man, this walker causes a lot of tears in our house at the moment! Both Kason and Cohen LOVE it! Cohen is usually the first to get it out (and he is very confident with using it), but Kason soon sees how much fun Cohen is having and decides he needs a turn too. Cohen is good at letting Kase have a go, but when it's time for Cohen's turn again, Kason does. not. like. it. He yells, cries and tries to bite Cohen's hands :-( There have been several times in the last few days when it has been put out of reach (i.e. on the other side of the fence)!

Cohen really is getting so confident with standing on his own, and did it several times today and yesterday, and the length of time he does it for has increased a lot over the last week. Wondering how long it will be before he takes his first few steps...I really think he will be walking first :-) which is only fair seeings as Kason crawled first!

Climbers?

Day 177

All three boys get on really well together, and this time was the first time that they really interacted and it was so cool to see! They kept encouraging each other to get into mischief and definitely kept me and G's Mum on our toes.

Today's picture is a common sight around here - whether the TV is on or not - although it's usually Cohen trying to climb up (it's Kason climbing in the picture). They will stand on anything just to get a little higher. We're definitely going to have two little climbers on our hands I think.

We didn't do anything special really, just swimming lesson in the morning, then we went out for 'coffee' (I don't drink coffee - I had my Tim Tam Chiller!) and cake at the shops down the road and did the groceries. It's not really a 'holiday' that I feel like celebrating when I'm missing someone so precious.

Anyways, we strolled down to one end of the mall I don't often go to, and decided to look in a shop just to see what they had in there, and I found my entire outfit for the boys' birthday party!! I was well impressed!

Shopping: Fail.

Day 175
Originally uploaded by Road2Chaos

Simon has been home today, which is always nice! We planned on going out shopping late this morning after the boys woke from their morning nap and giving them lunch at the mall...but they slept for almost 2.5 hours!!! Why they can't do that when it's just me at home during the week, I don't know!! Anyways, we ended up giving them lunch here then heading out.
I've been looking for an outfit for me to wear at the boys' birthday party. I only really started looking today, but it was an epic fail!!! I only found three items to even try on, and nothing else even worth taking off the rack to have a better look at it. I was well unimpressed!

I guess it doesn't help that I don't really have anything in particular in mind. And that all of the shops were packed with dads and kids - out doing last-minutes Mother's Day shopping no doubt!

Anyways, at least I have another few weeks to find something...

And slightly surprised, as we haven't been for a few weeks because they were a little sick and then it was holidays.
We're missing the next session cause we'll be picking my Mum up from the airport, but I'm looking forward to the time after that!

But you stop just before you reach them because you know I would have heard you, and you wait for me to come and tell you off. But you are awesome, and SO much fun!

Day 170
Originally uploaded by Road2Chaos

After the busyness of yesterday, it was quite nice to have a chilled out day at home. Kason and Cohen were both in such good moods today, although their naps were a bit off...Cohen only slept for half an hour this morning, and woke Kase up. They will usually sleep for an hour. Then this afternoon, the same thing happened. They had a feed after they woke up this arvo though, and they both fell asleep again for another hour, so in the end they got their 2.5 hours :-) Here's hoping they sleep well tonight!

They both did quite a bit of standing on their own today, and Kason even stood himself up for the first time!!! I think they are getting much more confident with it now...I wonder if they will be walking a little bit by their birthday in a few weeks time?

Party Time!

Day 169
Originally uploaded by Road2Chaos

Today was crazy busy!!! Although, I have to say, this new routine the boys are on is making mornings MUCH easier, and we are out the door with a whole lot less stress. We started the day with our usual Sunday morning pancakes, then we were off to swimming, home for a nap (for the boys!), lunch, and then we were off to a first birthday party!
The party was for one of Cohen and Kason's little friends whom we met in the Neonatal unit. He was born at 32 weeks, and he is doing so well now - it's awesome! While there, we also caught up with another set of twin boys (born at 26 weeks) with whom Kase & Cohen shared a room with in Neonates for a week or so. We haven't seen them since then as they transferred to another hospital. They, too, are doing really well now, which was fantastic to see! We actually first met these two boys before Kason and Cohen were even born - our twins antenatal class teacher took us on a tour of the Neonatal unit during one of our classes, and our group was talking to the nurse who was looking after J&L, so we met them then. So to go from seeing them then, with CPAP machines, drips in their arms, oxygen monitors, and a whole array of other wires and tubes on their tiny bodies, to seeing them when they were sharing a room with K&C, when they only had their NG tubes and were in open-top cribs, and then to now when they were both crawling around the place, pulling up on things and getting into everything...it was just fantastic :-)
