Done!

Day 17

I'm stoked with how it has turned out, and I think I like the smaller seam better. I had a bigger seam on the quilt I made for S.

I thought I was all packed and ready for our trip to the Gold Coast, but have just weighed our bag (we were hoping to get away with just taking one) and it's more than 45kg...yeah...I'm going to be repacking that tonight, and splitting it into two. Bugger! Two suitcases, two carseats, two strollers, two babies and two adults. For three days.

Kason & Cohen had their 6-month check-up today, and our CYH nurse is really pleased with their progress - they are both on the 25th percentile for all their measurements, which is awesome - they used to be tracking along the 10th percentile (non-adjusted age)! They are in a few 'grey' areas, but they are likely due to their prematurity and we'll check them again in a few weeks.

Better get onto the packing. And the dishes. And straightening my hair. Somehow I don't think I'll get to bed early tonight! Not like that would happen anyways, I kinda suck at getting to bed for 11pm!

You can't see it all in this picture, but I have three piles of Christmas presents, two half-packed suitcases, two packed baby bags, the airer of clothes, and the sheets hanging on our spare umbrella strollers! Oh, and an uninflated paddling pool! I'm trying to get all sorted for our Gold Coast trip and our NZ trip. I think I'm almost done with all the organising, including most of the Christmas presents. Just have a couple more to get, but we will get those in NZ.

I did several big loads of washing this morning because it was supposed to be overcast but warm with showers tonight. Supposed to be. The boys and I were out for half of the day, and while we were out, it started pouring. down. As soon as we got home, I brought the washing in, but it was soaking wet, so I had to put it on a spin cycle in the machine. Hence the full airer and the creative hanging of sheets on the strollers! I also have a blanket draped over our breakfast bar stools!

I have so much I need to get done tonight, should really stop procrastinating and turn my computer off and get onto it all...

Rag Quilt #2...so far! This one is for some friends of ours, for their new son. I made a quilt for their older son when he was born, so makes sense that I make their new baby one too! Simon and his aunty took Kason & Cohen out on Saturday afternoon, so I was at home by myself for the first time in a. long. time! I managed to get this sewn up in the 2 or so hours they were gone, and I've just now finished snipping the seams so it's ready to be washed tomorrow. I had aimed to have it finished by this coming Friday, and last week I was highly doubting it was going to happen! I think it has turned out really well :-)

Today has been ridiculously hot! When we went to playgroup at 9:30am, it was 28 degrees!!! Cohen's eczema really gets aggravated with the heat, so we try to keep him inside where it's cool. But it can be hard, because I can't handle being stuck inside all day everyday - I need a change of scene to stay sane!

Got lots on this week...it's going to be mega crazy, but I'm sure we will come out the other side just fine!

Anyways, there were several of these little gardens on the main street in Hahndorf yesterday, and the roses were so fragrant, just beautiful.

Day 3

Day 3
Snapped this photo while stopped at a red light this afternoon. It has been weeks since the blossoms were out on the trees around our area, so to see this little park full of trees in blossom next to a busy road was a lovely surprise :-)

Had playgroup this morning, then this afternoon we headed out to get something sorted for Simon's Christmas present from Kason & Cohen (I'll share more after Christmas!). Cohen has been pretty clingy today, and was super upset in the car on the way home this arvo. It's times like today when having twins is hard work. Cohen just wanted to be cuddled, but Kason wanted to play...hard to give them both what they need.

Days 1 & 2

Day 1
Seven new fabrics I bought in the weekend...these, plus some fleece I already have, will make two rag quilts. I love, love, love the top pink fabric, it's so super cute...but was a bit hard to match it with others. It will go with the three below it. The third fabric from the top is actually a really cool stripe - pinks, purples, blues, oranges and greens. The bottom four fabrics will make another quilt - the bottom one is flannelette robots, then a cotton monsters (my fav!), then cotton rockets and the light blue flannette (which is also for the pink quilt).
I just can't wait to get them all made up to see the final products :-)

Day 2
Both of my boys just love their tummy time! This is Kason, aka 'Turtle'. He pulls the funniest face when he is on his tummy and he reminds us of a little turtle! This isn't the 'turtle' face - he wasn't cooperating in that respect, but he was just fascinated by the camera, just stared at it!

Challenging

1. Taking identical twins to the shops quickly. Doesn't happen - we get stopped every few minutes by people wanting to peek at them! Can be frustrating when I'm in a rush...although today a lovely man stopped to talk to K&C while I was sitting down eating icecream (yum!), then thanked me for letting him :-)

2. Cooking dinner for one five nights out of seven. Simon works afternoons and nights. It's nice having him home in the mornings, but finding the motivation to cook only for myself most nights can be tough.

3. Trying to placate two crying babies.

4. Being away from friends when a friend is being farewelled. Wishing we were in Auckland today so we could be with our NZ dancing family, paying our respects to a wonderful man. D was honestly the most smiley person, and he had such a passion for dance from the day he walked into our class. He reinvigorated all the students with his energy. He will be sorely missed on the dance floor.

5. Finding time to sew! I have three rag quilts I want to get done before mid-December...not sure if it's going to happen though! One is started...

In other news, I have decided to set myself a new challenge. I'm jumping onboard with the popular 365 project - taking at least one photo a day for 365 days. I started on Sunday. While I won't get a chance to upload/post them everyday, I will do my best!

Today.

Today, one friend gave birth to a healthy baby boy.

Today, one friend died of a suspected heart attack.

Life. Death.

I'm so thrilled for my friend who is a new mother, and her husband, a new father.

Devastated and stunned about my friend. I saw him almost every day last year and the year before. He was, honestly, the most smiley, happy, energetic man I have ever known. He was so kind. And so young. He was a competitve dancer in his early 40s. Young and fit. Heart attack. They don't 'go together'. They shouldn't 'go together'. Wishing we were back in NZ with our dancing family there.

Crawling?!

So Cohen is SO close to crawling, it's ridiculous! Just today, he has figured out that when he lifts his bum off the ground and pushes forward, that he can move his arms forward to...and that that means he can MOVE! And get his toys! He still gets frustrated because he can't ge there as fast and as easily as he wants to, but I'm pretty certain it won't be long before he is all over the show...I think we need to baby-proof sooner rather than later.

Kason is starting to figure it all out too, but he seems happier to just watch Cohen first, then copy him - it means Kason gets less frustrated!
