All a bit boring really!

We have been at home all week...hence the lack of posts - haven't really had a lot to say. Simon was working today and it was raining, so we were home AGAIN today. Well, mostly. We did zip out to Toys R Us and Spotlight to grab a couple of things. And it was a quick trip, we didn't get there until 30 minutes before closing. The Toys R Us stop was successful, got what I was looking for, but Spotlight was a whole nother story. I went with the intention of getting a particular fabric and a particular binding for a project I'm halfway through, and that' all. I couldn't find either, and didn't have time to have a decent search. Instead, I got two other fabrics which were SUPER cute (I have no idea what I'm going to do with them, but that's ok!) and some cards for thank you notes for K & C's party.

Simon is out tonight. Out social dancing with his colleagues from work. I want to be there. I did plan on getting a sitter to watch the boys, but with Cohen being sick last week, then Kason being sick this week, I didn't think it would be a good idea. I didn't know how Kase would be feeling by today. They are having another one at the end of June, so who knows, maybe I'll be able to make it to that one.

Robots and Candles

Day 165
Originally uploaded by Road2Chaos

We sent birthday invitations out for Kason and Cohen's first birthday party today! I am SO excited! I think I've mentioned before that it's a robot theme. We have pretty much everything sorted (I think!), but although I've seen pictures of robot candles, I have not been able to be FIND any! My mum managed to find a British online store that has some, but they just weren't what I had in mind...and more than that, while they were only AUS$4.50 each, when we added in postage, we would be looking at paying AUS$40 for two candles!!! Yeah, nah! No freaken way am I paying that for two candles that I don't love!
Anyways, I had the idea to make a candle holder out of fimo/du-kit. I had some in my craft stuff, so I made this little guy! He has a hole in the top of his head where the candle will go. He is just a trial one - I have a few adjustments to make, including toothpicks in his feet so he can 'stand' on the cake. I need to get some green du-kit too, to make Cohen's one. There will be two cakes - one for each boy. I am definitely a cake lover, and I think it would SUCK having to share my birthday cake (not the actual eating part of it, of course!), so that was one of the things we decided early on after discovering we were expecting twins - that they would always have separate cakes (unless they want a joint cake at some point).

Speaking of cake...I'm trying to decide if I want some with vanilla ice cream for my dessert...!

We went in the late afternoon and there weren't many people there. The boys had a great time, Cohen a bit more so...Kase wasn't feeling quite 100% I don't think. It was so nice to be able to go out, all four of us, on a weeknight. Because of Simon's work, we are NEVER able to do that - he doesn't get home until 11:40pm. I'm definitely looking forward to my mum getting here in a few weeks, so, weather-depending, we will be able to make a few more outings like that!

Eleven Months!

Dear Kason & Cohen,

You are 11 months old!!! I cannot believe that you are almost ONE!

Kason & Cohen - 11 months!

We haven't really done anything particularly out of the ordinary this past month - just playgroups, and hanging out! Although, we have just had a super long weekend of five days for Easter and ANZAC Day, so we had Daddy home with us that whole time which you both LOVED!

You have both been a bit sick this month. Kason, you got quite a bad chesty cough, so you had some medicine for that (you really liked the flavour, which made it easy to give it to you). That cleared up fairly quickly, but literally the day you finished your medicine, you got the same rash that Cohen had for the 4/5 days beforehand. Cohen, your rash is clearing up well, and should hopefully be gone in another day or two. Hopefully, Kase, yours is gone by the weekend so we can go swimming on Sunday.

Cohen, you will stand on your own occasionally, usually a couple of times a day, and you are getting really good at it! You LOVE the push-along walker, and you will often get it out and push it around the living room. A few nights ago, you just walked around with it for a good 20 minutes...and you would have kept on going if you didn't have to go to bed!

Kason, you can stand on your own, too, but you don't do it very often. You are very good at walking while holding onto mine or Daddy's hands. You are so very proud of yourself when you walk. You have adopted a VERY cheeky grin - you scrunch up your nose and kind of snort! When we were at the doctors office with Cohen, you won several new friends with it.

You are both becoming very outgoing little boys, and you are getting more and more confidence which is awesome to see :-) We had some of your friends over on Good Friday, and instead of clinging to me, you both went off to play.

Over the long weekend, Daddy and I put you on a new routine, which seems to be working really well, and has already improved your daytime sleeps, and we're getting there with your night sleeps - I'm hoping that once you are both feeling better (with the rashes you've had, you both seem to have been a bit miserable and wanting cuddles in the middle of the night), we will have you both sleeping through the night pretty reliably.

Paula was here a week or so ago, so she weighed and measured you.

Kason, your 'stats' are:

Weight: 9030g
Length: 72.5cm
Teeth: 8!

Kason - 11 months!

Cohen, your 'stats' are:

Weight: 9200g
Length: 73cm
Teeth: 6!

Cohen - 11 months!

The next few weeks are going to be crazy busy, what with getting everything sorted for your birthday and your birthday party. And Nana arrives the week before your birthday, so we will be out lots with her. I'm looking forward to it!

You are such amazing little guys, and every single day you make me laugh!
I love you both SO, SO much!

Love,
Mummy

Looong Weekend!

Day 163
Originally uploaded by Road2Chaos

With Easter Weekend and ANZAC Day falling over the same weekend this year, we get a super long weekend - FIVE days! It is great having Simon home with us :-) Unfortunately, we spent Saturday trying to get Cohen a doctor's appointment (with success in the late afternoon), then we had him back there on Sunday morning. He has a really bad rash, the poor lil man, and is literally covered from head to toe in tiny red spots. Thankfully it's nothing major, it's a viral thing apparently (although Kason seems fine), and we just have to wait it out. We took him back to the doctors on Sunday morning because it was much worse than on Saturday. It's worse again today, and he has a slight temperature. We're definitely keeping a very close eye on him, but other than those couple of things, he seems mostly fine. Just a little more clingy than usual.

In other news, we have just put Cohen and Kason on a new schedule, and it seems to be working a treat! It's only been a few days so far, but so far, so good!

Anyways, we spent the afternoon down at the beach (Port Willunga, to be precise) this arvo, and I still have something on my camera lens, so I have photos to edit...luckily you can't see the marks in this picture - this is straight out of the camera. I love it, I think it came out great!

So, the very first photo in my 365 Project was of a pile of fabric. This fabric (and a few others). I FINALLY finished the quilt! I started it a few weeks ago, and mucked up a row and I hadn't gotten around to fixing it yet. With the long weekend, and having Simon home to occupy the boys has meant that I was able to finish it! I will be posting it off to my friend who had a little girl a couple of weeks ago :-)

It's a Good Friday

Day 160
Originally uploaded by Road2Chaos

Kason and Cohen slept through the night for three nights in a row! Last night was a different story though...Cohen woke up at 3am, it took me 40mins to get him back to sleep (not too bad), then Kason woke up at 4am and woke Cohen up too. Oh the joys!

Today has been a bit crazy, but great! Our Mother's group had planned an easter hunt at nearby park, but the weather has been weird today - one minute the sun is shining, and the next it's pouring with rain - so it wasn't really a good idea to have our picnic lunch outside, so everyone came here. It was decided about an hour beforehand, so that's how long I had to give the house a quick clean etc.! It was great though, and was awesome to see everyone :-) One of the girls is due to have bubba #2 in two weeks, so perhaps the next time we see her, we'll have another one in the group. It was awesome watching the little ones all interacting, they are at such a cool age right now :-)
Anyways, with all the excitement, Kason and Cohen didn't go down for their afternoon nap. We did try to get them to sleep after everyone left at 4pm, but they were just so overtired by that point (they only had an hour this morning), it just wasn't going to happen, so I took them for a walk while Si had a nap. We saw this tree while we were out and about...well, I did - the boys were fast asleep!

I think I'm heading that way very shortly too, to bed, can't wait!

To sleep, or not to sleep

Day 158
Originally uploaded by Road2Chaos

So yesterday and today, the boys have decided that they only need one nap. Granted, the naps they have had, have been pretty long - 1hr 45mins today (they will usually only sleep for about 40mins). They are happy all day...until about 5pm when they start to get grizzly and clingy. Right when I am wanting to get their dinner sorted and everything ready for their bath. This afternoon, we went to the mall to grab a few things, and I timed it specifically so we would be leaving about their usual afternoon nap time, in the hope that they would fall asleep in the car on the way home. They didn't. They were both wide awake!
But...I do have to say that they have slept 12.5-13 hours for the last two nights, so maybe we're onto something? I don't know though...I think they are still too little to drop a nap, they aren't even one yet!

My post tonight is short...I have some cot rail protectors to sew up. I made some a week or so ago, but only one for each cot, and Kason has discovered he can still bite into the non-protected rail!

Day 154
Originally uploaded by Road2Chaos

We had such an awesome day today! We headed into the city and caught up with one of my school friends and her hubby. But first, we stopped in at the dance studio where Simon works (in the city), and I FINALLY got a chance to have a dance! Just two dances - we had a tango and a cha cha - but it was SO great!
Anyways, from there, we met Cath & Caleb at the markets across the road, and wandered to a little playground near their place. We had a really nice picnic lunch, then took the boys to play on the playground. Cohen, in particular, LOVED the swings!!!!!!!! He was grinning and laughing the entire time, and when we went to go on the slide, Cohen would. not. let. go. of the chain! They were so knackered after all their playing, they fell asleep on the walk back to the car. Today's picture is of Victoria Square in Adelaide City.
Tomorrow is looking like it's going to be another busy one!

Mission: Impossible??

Day 153
Originally uploaded by Road2Chaos

Kason and Cohen are often waking during the night. I know they don't need a feed, they managed several months of (mostly) sleeping right through, and they are eating more now than they were then. Granted, they are moving more too, but I am certain that they are just waking to be comforted. And I have been feeding them, purely because it's easy to get them back to sleep that way, and, to be honest, in the middle of the night, easy is the way I'm gonna go.
But. This broken sleep is killing me! Although, it's kinda nice not having to feel bad when Simon gets up with the boys in the morning cause I've been up with them during the night, I'd much rather get a full nights sleep!
So. Back to the story. I am going to attempt to not feed them back to sleep when they wake up at night. I actually did it last night. Cohen woke up at 4am, and although it took an hour to get him to settle in his cot, he did settle, and he slept until 7am!
We'll see how we go tonight. We decided on tackling it this weekend cause Simon isn't working tomorrow, so he will be able to get up if necessary.

On another note! We didn't go to playgroup today, both of the boys are still a bit snotty, and Kase is a bit chesty. Didn't want to run the risk of the little preemies possibly getting sick. Instead, we just hung out with Daddy! It was such a beautiful day. Kason and Cohen had MEGA naps this afternoon - I woke them up just after 5pm (they went down about 2:45pm) because I didn't particularly want them to fight going to sleep tonight.

Day 152
Originally uploaded by Road2Chaos

I love this picture of Kason with his Daddy! Although it would have been better if Si was actually looking at the camera, but hey! What can ya do?! Kason and Cohen really do love swimming - they grin the entire time, even when they are splashing water in each others faces...maybe even especially then!

Our CYH nurse came by today. We are in a programme where they boys are 'followed' for the first two years of their lives, which is fantastic! I get a lot of support and information from our nurse, and the boys get weighed and measured every month without me having to make a special trip to have it done! It's just reassuring to know how they are doing. And they are doing great! Cohen is smack bang on the 25th percentile for his actual age, and Kason is ever so slightly under the 25th percentile. This is AWESOME! When they were born, they were both UNDER the 3rd percentile, so they really are doing fantastic :-D
Our nurse also thinks that both boys are not far away from walking...at all. I wonder if they will be walking by their birthday! My Dad is wanting them to walk NOW. My oldest brother was walking by 8.5 months and apparently got into everything, and my Dad wants my boys to cause as much mischief and mayhem as possible. Yeah...I'm not so keen on that aspect of it. I do agree with our nurse though, I really don't think they are far off walking.

And for a complete change of subject...when we were at the mall tonight, we spent about 15 minutes in my favourite coffee shop. In that short space of time, no less than six people came over to us to tell me how gorgeous Kason and Cohen are, and to try to coax a smile out of them. One lady had apparently been watching us from the other side of the shop (that sounds remotely creepy...!) for a while and was amazed at how both of the boys would copy me waving and clapping.

Looking forward to having Simon home for most of tomorrow...I'm a little unsure if we're going to make it to Neonates playgroup in the morning, the boys have both had slightly runny noses the last couple of days (which I'm sure is just from teething), but because there are likely to be tiny prem babies there, some only just released from hospital, I'd rather not risk them getting sick. Might have to take a trip to Target instead ;-)

Listening!

Day 151
Originally uploaded by Road2Chaos

This week, Kason and Cohen have started to show me that they are understanding what we say. Cohen will clap when I ask him to - he LOVES to clap!!! It's the cutest thing, he gets the biggest grin on his face :-D Kason will say 'hi' when he waves, or when I wave to him - SO gorgeous! And Kason's latest trick, the trick he has been 'showing off' for the last two nights? He stands up in the bath - this in itself isn't new - and he KNOWS he isn't allowed to. So anyways, he stands up, and I say to him, "Kason, can you sit down please?", and down he sits! Only to get back up again so we can repeat this over, and over, and over, and over, and over again until he doesn't sit back down - then he gets out.

Kason and Cohen went to 'school' again this morning. I have to admit, it's quite nice to that break when I know I'll actually be able to get things done without being interrupted. I finally bought some plain long-sleeved onsies for the boys a week or so ago, with the intention of doing some applique. But by the time the boys are in bed, and I've cooked and eaten my dinner, I usually just want to blob on the couch! Anyways...I actually got them done this morning, plus a load of washing folded, put away and another on the line and made the boys their fruit for the week. It was a very productive morning! And again, they had lots of fun playing at school, and had just fallen asleep in The Hummer when I arrived to pick them up :-)

Their naps were a bit strange today...they stayed asleep when I transferred them into their carseats, then into their cots, and they stayed asleep for 1.5 hours! This afternoon, they were acting all tired - grizzly, rubbing their eyes etc., so I put them down. But they did. not. want. to. sleep.!!! After 20 minutes of them talking, squealing, crying and chatting, I got them up and took them into our bed. Kason fell asleep within 5 minutes! Cohen took a little longer, but he, too, was soon asleep and we all took a nap together :-) They obviously just wanted cuddles with Mama and Brother!

Our CYH nurse is coming tomorrow, so I'll be getting Cohen and Kase weighed, and hopefully measured...will be very interesting!

Oh! And Cohen got a package in the mail from his Nana (my Mum) today, a new knitted jersey - it is SO cute!!! Can't wait for Kason's to arrive! Mum can knit it now that we know it will fit.

Cohen even crawled over him, literally, and he didn't stir for another half and hour!!!

Weekend

So after my last post when the boys had me up every hour from 3:10am on Wednesday night, Cohen slept until 5am on Friday morning, then went back to sleep until 7:30am, and Kason slept until 7am! It was sooo nice to have a decent sleep for a change, and I definitely felt more human on Friday. Unfortunately though, it was just a one-off and they were back to waking up once or twice each. Until last night, when they decided to only let me sleep for 3.5 hours. Total. On the flip side, they have both had awesome naps the last two days - one massive 2.5 hour nap yesterday, and two 40 minute naps today. I know today's naps weren't long, but it was the fact that they were both asleep within 10 minutes of being put in their cots.

Friday the boys had a birthday party for one of their little friends. It was held at Wiggly Worms, and Kason and Cohen had so much fun! Well, Cohen a bit more than Kason, who decided to be a bit clingy and cracked it when it put him in the ball pit! He did warm up after a while and crawled off to investigate some of the other toys and play with the other babies, so that was good. I think going to occasional care is improving their confidences, I'm pretty sure that had they been at the party there a couple of months ago, they would not have left my side at all.

Saturday, Si was working, so the boys and I just stayed home. It was a good day for it too, the weather was shite! Friday was beautiful - warm (31C!) and sunny - but Saturday, I think the temperature got up to 22C and rainy. And it hasn't improved since - yesterday's high was a whopping 16.9C!

Sunday was pretty stock-standard - pancakes for breakfast, swimming lesson, home for a nap (for everyone - it was fantastic and I slept for two hours! Thanks, Si, for getting the boys up and giving them their lunch!), then to the shops for a Latte for Simon and a Tim Tam Chiller for me, and groceries.

Today, we've just hung out at home, apart from a short stroll to the post box down the road! I did manage to bake a batch of Grandma's Chocolate Chip cookies, and yesterday I baked some hot cross buns! Fruitless hot cross buns, of course - I can't stand biting into a raisin or sultana when I'm eating bread, it's just wrong! I have promised to bake Simon some with fruit in them at some point during the week though.

I'm hoping to be in bed earlier than 12am tonight...we'll see how that plan pans out!

Day 145
Originally uploaded by Road2Chaos

Last night was a loooong night. As per usual, both Kason and Cohen were in bed, asleep, by 8pm. Cohen then woke at 9:10pm. Then he woke again at 3:10am. And 4:10am. Kason woke at 5:10am. Cohen woke again at 6:10am - this time for the day. Simon got up with him. Then Kason woke at 7am. I had forgotten to turn the sounds on the monitor off when Simon got up.

Despite my lack of sleep last night, we had a good day. The boys were super happy and goofy and cheeky...even if Kason refused to eat anything other than blueberry and apple!

Today's photo...after we left the mall tonight (we walk around the shops on late-night Thursday instead of going for a walk), I noticed the setting sun. It was absolutely beautiful, MASSIVE and bright orangey-pink. I got the boys and the groceries in the car and we drove to the beach which is just a few minutes down the road, but we were just a little too late - we missed seeing it melt into the ocean :-( I didn't have my big camera anyways, so we're going to have to go back another night soon.

It does have the added bonus of ending with a slight downhill, but generally, I walk in the exact opposite direction. Kason, Cohen and I only went for a little walk this afternoon cause we skyped Nana & Grumps which took up about half of our walking time. I would have just not gone, but both of the boys decided they did not need an afternoon nap today, and I wanted them to at least have a little bit of sleep! Today's picture is of Cohen (left) and Kason (right) in The Hummer. Kase looks shitty, but he is just trying to keep his eyes open...he lost that fight very quickly! And Cohen (being his usual cheeky self) fell asleep not long after that.

We have one spot booked at Occasional Care tomorrow morning. I have to ring first thing to see if we can get another spot. If we can't, I won't be taking either of them in. I don't think I could split them up just yet...not somewhere where they aren't 100% comfortable, and where they don't know many people.

I'm tired. I want to get to bed before 11:30pm for a change, but I don't think it's going to happen - I'm much too good at procrastinating. I still have to get the boys' bags ready incase they have 'school' in the morning, do the dishes and give the boys a dream feed.

Aldinga and Sellicks Beaches

We have had such an awesome weekend! It's so nice when Si isn't working the Saturday. We didn't really do a whole lot, but yesterday afternoon we went for a drive down the coast a little. We only went about 30mins south, but, for whatever reason, we hadn't made it down there before now! It is absolutely stunning, and I managed to get quite a few really good shots which I was stoked about. We figured it would be a good day to go for a drive because daylight savings ended and it would be easier to change the boys' timing for dinner, bath, bed and naps cause being in the car puts them to sleep - so we left at their nap time and it worked a treat! But then Kase decided he wanted to be awake between 3:30am and 5am this morning...great fun. I would much rather be up early (and I am NOT a morning person!) than have broken sleep. He then fell asleep during breakfast for 20mins, refused to have his usual morning nap. It is only just now that I have managed to have both boys asleep at the same time since 6am this morning!
Today has just been a quiet, usual Monday at home. And after the boys wake and have had a feed, we'll go for a walk - it's beautiful outside :-)
