26 Weeks

We have fortnightly ultrasounds on the boys as they are at risk of suffering from TTTS (twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome) which is a really bad thing. However, at this stage, they are showing no signs - fantastic!
Two weeks ago, Twin A was measuring in the 9th percentile for size and Twin B was measuring in the 5th percentile. Neither the person doing the scan nor our obstetrician made a big deal of it - they didn't even tell us the percentiles - but both mentioned that the twins were small, and double-checked that they were, in fact, growing (which they were). The results from the latest scan we had were rather different - both twins are now measuring in the 50th percentile!!! I haven't been eating differently, or doing any more, or less, exercise, but the boys have certainly had a HUGE growth spurt in the last two weeks!!! It was so nice to walk out of the obstetrician's office relieved for once, and not worrying about the babies being small!

In other good news, our belongings have finally arrived! It has been so nice to have the boxes to unpack, and I've already baked two cakes and batch of cookies now that I have my baking things! There is, however, one package which has mysteriously vanished. It had in it our big wedding photo canvas - which we were yet to unwrap, and the plastic ends for the bed slats...meaning we can't put our bed together! At least we can sleep on our mattress now though, and the air bed has been consigned to the cupboard, where it belongs!

Been thinking a lot about Christa's husband and their two boys...it just breaks my heart that Andy is now without his high school sweetheart, and that A & T will have so few memories of their amazing mother...

Just Can't Wrap My Head Around It

Last Thursday I found out that a dear friend of mine, Christa, was killed in a car accident. Christa was only 35 and she and her husband had four children, twin girls who died at birth, and 6-year-old twin boys. She was an amazing woman with a wicked sense of humour and I will MISS her dearly. My thoughts and my heart go out to Andy, Austin, Tyler and their family.

Miscellaneous

1. We had our OB appointment this morning...babies are small, but growing "similarly". Thank god we had our scan last Friday and the ultrasound guy was much more reassuring! He told us that, while they *are* small, they are growing together, and at a good rate.

2. This whole 'sleeping-on-an-airbed' thing really isn't so much fun after eight (yes, EIGHT!) weeks, but today I got a referral to the physio for my back pain! AND, they had a space for tomorrow! It's kind of sad how excited I am about a physio appointment, but I have high hopes!

3. I also have high hopes that as of this Thursday, I will no longer have to sleep on said airbed!

3(a). No, our personal effects still have not arrived, and we still don't know when they will arrive, but I'm hoping it will be the end of this week.

3(b). I'm going to visit two of my brothers and one of my sisters-in-law in the Gold Coast for a few days from Thursday - and they have a spare bed! So I will, at least, get to sleep in a proper bed for three nights.

4. When I first found out I was pregnant, I started knitting a blanket for the baby. That was 24 weeks ago...I finished it last week. It's really plain, and in no way at all was it difficult - far from it, in fact - I just have to be in the right kind of 'space' to knit, and I kept going through huge phases of not working on it!

4(a). I have since started another blanket for the other twin...what's the odds I can finish this one in time! At least for the moment it has the novelty of being a different colour to the one I have just finished...

5. I can't wait to see my brothers and my sister-in-law!!! I haven't seen my younger brother since about mid-way through last year and at the time I didn't know I wouldn't see him for so long, and I last saw my older brother and his wife at Christmas, but only briefly as they were only in town for two days and had A LOT on!

6. It was my birthday last week. I'm now 25. Car insurance is cheaper now...we don't have a car. I went to a seminar on 'Coping with Baby's First Months', then went out salsa dancing with The Husband and two friends. Was great fun!

7. I'm hungry, so I'm going to go now and make some spaghetti bolognaise for my dinner!

Still Waiting!

Our personal effects are in the country. I believe they are even in South Australia. Two weeks ago, we were told we should expect to have them the following week...as in LAST week. Last week, we were told we would get a phone call early this week and they would be delivered by the end of this week. Granted it's only Tuesday afternoon, but I consider 'early' in the week to be Monday or Tuesday...they better call me soon!!!!!!!! I was hoping to be able to bake a birthday cake for my birthday tomorrow, but I need all my baking things, which are still on their way. I am still hoping to be able to make one for Friday...that would mean that our things need to be here by Thursday. A girl can hope!

The last couple of weeks have been really quiet for me, I really am just waiting for our stuff to arrive, so I can get the house sorted and so I can have things to keep me occupied! I bought a new sewing machine here (I had been using my Mum's), but I need all my material and threads which are...you guessed it...still coming!

One of my friends from school is over from NZ at the moment, and we caught up on Friday and visited the Adelaide Zoo. It was really nice to catch up with her, and to get out of the house doing something different! After that, I wandered around the city for a while, saw a street show as part of the Adelaide Fringe Festival and then went up to the dance studio where The Husband works. He was taking the 'Dance of the Month' class which is Casino Rueda this month, and as I'm able to dance both the girls part and the guys part, I went to even out numbers if needed...and I was needed, as a girl which is always a bonus! It's always a fun class and I'm looking forward to going again this Friday.

Saturday we visited the McLaren Vale wine region with another couple from the studio - they are very much into their Shiraz's, as is The Husband, so they did the tastings and I did the tagging-along-for-the-ride! It was great to be able to see some more of the scenery around where we live, and the weather held out for the most part - it only started raining as we were at the last winery of the day.

I think that's about it from here for now! Hopefully next time I update, we'll have furniture (our bed! Oh, I am SO looking forward to sleeping in our bed! Being 6 months pregnant and sleeping on an airbed isn't so great).
