A little bit of everything

This is Christie's Beach - it's about a 10min drive from our place and it's just beautiful! I can't wait until we have a car so we can actually get down there more easily!

Everything is ticking along here. Had an Obstetrician appointment at the specialist clinic at the hospital this morning. He was very happy with how things are going, and he even did a quick ultrasound on the babies to check their heartbeats - so that was an added bonus!
We also have fortnightly scans booked in with the radiology department, starting two weeks from now, until I'm 32 weeks - in May. It will be great to be able to see the boys every two weeks :-)

The Husband's job is going well, and he is really enjoying it. Last week was all training, and at strange times, this week I think it's mostly training with a little bit of teaching and he's there 1-10pm every day during the week. It's gonna be lonely here in the evenings, especially with no TV to keep me occupied but our belongings should be arriving in the next couple of weeks, so I'll have those to sort out, plus my NEW sewing maching to play with (I need our bar stools to sit on!). At least it means I should get the blankets I'm knitting for the boys finished pretty quickly. I've almost finished one, and I'm looking forward to getting onto the blue one...kinda getting tired of looking at green wool!

I'm planning on spending a day in the city this week, just having a look around while The Husband is at work. Have to keep an eye on the temperatures though because I really don't want to be in the city on a ridiculousy hot day...like it's supposed to be later in the week! I'm also hoping to get down to join the library so I can borrow some books! I've just finished the second (of two) book on twins we bought before we came over and I would usually just reread one of my old books, but they aren't here yet!

That's about all from here for now I think!

Double-Shot of Boy, Please!

So yesterday afternoon, we had our anatomy scan of the twins! Everything is great, they are growing well (although measuring about a week behind which they also apparently were at the 12week scan, so that's ok) and are both really active. One a little more so...he was kicking his brother in the face!

Yup, it's identical twin BOYS!!! We are so excited to finally know, and when we were grocery shopping this morning, we made a little side trip into Pumpkin Patch and got eight little bodysuits in blue and green! I think to make it easier to tell them apart at first glance when they are tiny, we will have one always in blue and one always in green, but we'll see! And in photos for their Grumps, they will be wearing the same thing to confuse him ;-)

I was so relieved to see them both healthy and kicking away on the screen...I had been terrified that something would be wrong, especially as my belly is still really quite small considering how far along I am...and with twins! My parents are both thrilled - their first grandsons! My Mum is knitting away and is looking forward to doing some blue things, and choosing some material for their bassinette and cot sheets now she knows they're little boys.

We do have names picked out, but we're keeping those a secret from everyone until they are born - I think I even know which one is going to have which name. They kind of made it easy for us, the baby (Baby A) which was kicking his brother in the face yesterday is the same baby that was doing flips the first time we saw them! We want to give the less active baby the 'stronger' name so they maybe even out??!

I'm so excited about doing their nursery now, but I have to wait until our things arrive from NZ! Oh, and the bouncers we got for $85.00 off in the weekend...the only ones they had left were pink...so we're going to have to dye them (although I don't think that fabric will dye very easily!) or put a blanket over them! Hehehe, it's going to look funny having everything in their nursery blue and green, and then having two pink bouncers! Oh well, I'm sure the boys won't mind...until they get older and see photos of them in them :-D

Anyways, I better get going - the dishes aren't going to wash themselves!

Two Weeks In

We have now been in Adelaide for just over two weeks, and we're really enjoying it so far! We've still only got our couches, fridge, washing machine and air bed, but it's surprising how few of the 'essential' items one really needs! I do think that a bed is going to be our next big buy though, the air bed is getting a bit too uncomfortable for me! The one we buy will go into our spare room when ours arrives.

We did buy two cots, two mattresses and two bouncers in the weekend though! Babies'R'Us is having a HUGE sale on at the moment - the cots were half price, the mattresses were $30.00 off and the bouncers were $85.00 off!!!!!!!!! I'm just waiting for them to be delivered this afternoon :-)

The Husband is at WORK! Well, he's training...learning the new studio's syllabus so he can get onto teaching it. We attended three classes there on Thursday night and it went really well, I really enjoyed it! I even managed to keep up fine in the silver level Argentine Tango class - I've never done Argentine Tango before! So yeah, The Husband should pick up the syllabus pretty quickly, and hopefully he'll start getting some lessons in the next week or so. He does get paid for training though, which is nice...we'll have some money going into our account again!

We have our anatomy scan on the babies tomorrow afternoon...I'm really nervous and excited about it! I'm hoping hoping hoping that everything is perfect with them and that they are growing perfectly etc., and we should get to find out what flavour they are! As long as they are cooperating of course! I figure if one's not, the other one should be, but we'll see tomorrow!

Anyways, the washing machine has just finished the load I put in earlier so I better go and hang it out!

We're Here!!!

And we're in Adelaide!!! We are getting settled into our new home...as much as possible with only limited furniture - ours is still 5-7 weeks away! We have bought a new fridge, washing machine and couches, and we're still sleeping on our air bed for the time being but we're managing! Tuesday was a public holiday here, so even though we bought our new things on Saturday, none of it was able to be delivered until Wednesday, so sitting on pillows on the floor got pretty old pretty quickly! And we had no power from when we arrived until Monday afternoon, but thankfully we *did* have gas, so we were able to take hot showers and cook on the gas hobs.

We had our first antenatal (in Australia) appointment on Monday, and that went really well. I was worried that as it isn't the main hospital, I wouldn't be able to have the twins there as my pregnancy is classed as high-risk, but they had no issues with it. They have a NICU there if necessary, one of the only two in South Australia even, so my worries were completely unfounded! Everything with the babies seems to be going really well. I'm still sick most mornings, but at least it's ONLY the mornings now, and then I'm all good to get on with my day :-) We have the anatomy scan on February 9th, so we're REALLY hoping we are able to find out if we're expecting girls or boys! I have a feeling it's boys, but that may be because my favourite name is a boys name and I soooo want to use it! Simon, and most of our friends, think they're girls! Not long now until we can know...hopefully!
One thing I am REALLY looking forward to doing is getting their room all set up! Our new home is 3 bedrooms, so we had two rooms to choose from for them, and it was pretty easy to decide which one - one of them is really quite dark, even during the day, so that's the one! Hopefully it will be conducive to sleeping for them! We are going to wait to find out what sex they are before we buy anything else for them, and then we have to wait for their bassinettes and other things to arrive from New Zealand. When we were packing everything up, I realised that we actually have a lot of things for them already, but it's the equipment now that we need...like bottles and nappies and sheets and towels and bouncers and and and!!! The list could go on forever!

My Mum has her flights over booked for June 25th, so just under a week out from my due date of July 1st, but I imagine the twins would have made their grand appearance before then - fullterm for twins is 37 weeks. I'm REALLY hoping we get to that point at least...60% of twins don't get to fullterm.

Anyways, I better go before this gets too long (as if it isn't already!)!

Offline

I'll be going offline from this afternoon, we're off to Adelaide on Friday morning and so our phones and internet will be disconnected from this afternoon. Hopefully we'll be back up and running over the weekend, but we'll see how things go!

Anyways, better get a move on -we have SO much to do today!

Last Day

Tomorrow is my last day at work. It's going to be a really sad day. I've been working at this site for the last six years and the people I work with are so awesome - I'm really going to miss them all. I'm sure I will be kept up to date with all the news and gossip, and they have all demanded plenty photos of the twins once they arrive (and before, but they aren't getting those!).
There has been a lot of upheaval at work in the last 6-9 months which has happened almost yearly in the time I've been there. Because of this, I am rather looking forward to leaving...it's just the people I don't want to say goodbye to. I know I'm quite likely to cry, but I'm going to be blaming that on the hormones! I can't believe we are leaving in a week tomorrow!

We are having a few drinks (non-alcoholic for me, of course!) at a local bar on Saturday, so we get a chance to say goodbye to people, then a BBQ lunch with my aunty, uncles and cousins on Sunday, and dinner with some good friends of ours tomorrow night. It's going to be a crazy busy week I think - I've got a couple of appointments in Hamilton early next week too! I don't think we have too much left to do, most of our things are packed (thanks to my totally awesome husband, who has packed it ALL!) and our big things are all sold...with the exception of our couches which is worrying me. Hopefully we can sell them to a second-hand furniture store if they don't sell on TradeMe in the next few days.

The Husband is working for an hour tonight so I need to get dinner ready for when he's home. We've got a cake to ice after dinner too! YUM!!!

Cookie Monster Cupcakes

The Husband and I baked some cupcakes for my work last night. One of my good work friends is away on leave next week which is my last week and she asked me to make these ones months ago, so figured now was as good a time as any!

They weren't hard to decorate, just a little time consuming!

First we iced each cupcake with blue icing, then put in half a mini chocolate chip cookie for it's mouth, then put blue-tinted coconut* on the icing. We then put two dollops of white icing for the eyes and small chocolate chips for the pupils.

I think they turned out really cute, and they definitely went down a treat at work this morning!!!

*To tint the coconut, put the desired amount of coconut in a ziplock bag, then put several drops of blue food colouring onto the plastic inside the bag, being careful not to get it on any of the coconut yet - it will clump. Then shake the coconut into the colour. Add more food colouring for a brighter colour, or more coconut to lighten it!
Enjoy!
